Can low iron during pregnancy cause problems with the child?

When I was pregnant with my son I had two different OBGYNs. First one was the first 5 months of my pregnancy then when my husband deployed I moved back home to be with my family so I had a new OBGYN for the last part of my pregnancy. The very first appointment I had, the first thing they did was check my iron level. It was at a 6 (I think it's supposed to be a 12 or 13 don't remember exactly). Since it was so low, they immediately put me on an iron supplement and within 3 weeks my iron was back to where it needed to be. Anyways, my son has numerous medical problems. Two of which being his heart and brain didn't develop all the way. I was wondering if the low iron for the first 5 months gestation with no medicine to help raise the iron level could have cause these problems?
