Catholics, How could Mary be purified after the fact?

According the Immaculate Conception you believe Mary was born without sin and remained sinless throughout her life, yet this concept was not official until 1854. My question is why did not Jesus in His many sermons in the Gospel never once mention this fact? Yes Jesus Christ the Messiah who through His ministry enlightened all Christians to this day, yet did not mention Mary's sinless state?
